Well, my netflix movie is over so I tuned in to the rest of that Euro singing contest. I’ve reached a level of inebriation where I can live with it. But it made me think or so. As far as I can remember, the first time I decided to not spend the pocket money my parents gave me on sweets was when I bought a copy of Roxette’s “Tourism” album on CD. And yes, I liked “Pretty Woman”. I wish it was something I could be more proud of but whatevs,
So let’s be honest here! What was the first record you actually bought/paid for with your own money?

I can’t tell you the first album, since I basically inherited by brother’s excellent vinyl collection when he went into the army (it was a long-term loan, actually). But the first record I remember buying was the 45 Funky Town by Lipps, Inc. No recollection of what was on the B side.

First vinyl record I bought when I discovered my parents had a record player that still worked in 2001:
First album of any sort I bought was Green Day’s Dookie when it came out. I think I was 12... it was totally inappropriate but my parents are pretty progressive.

Beastie Boys ‘Licensed To Ill’ about a week after it came out.

The Eminem Show, I think I was 11 or 12 when I bought it.
Before this I was well acquainted with my parents’ vinyl and tape collection of classic rock. I still enjoy songs from this album when they come up on the iPod that lives in my car though.

Be proud! Roxette kicked ass, and “Look Sharp!” and “Joyride” were especially awesome albums. Their classic tune “Fading Like a Flower” rocks my socks off btw.

Vinyl of course. (Because the only other option was 8-Track)

The Wall. I was listening to my sister’s cassette when my player ate the tape. She felt bad that I spent my money on replacing it, so she gave me my money back. I then went and bought Phil Collins, Face Value. Face Value also ended up being the first CD I purchased.
Now I feel old.

First I recall was the fat boys crushin In 1st or 2nd grade. Bought it because my granny was a beach boys fan and I saw them on the track list. Don’t think I’d ever even heard of rap at the time.

The first album I bought was “Aquarium” by Aqua sometime in early 1998. I still listen to that album from time to time, but I usually skip “Barbie Girl” because it’s my least favorite song on the album.

They put on a pretty good show. Worth checking them out. I saw them play an arena in the mid 80s.
